Darra Keeton sat in a beautiful courtyard and watched as a leaf floated to the ground. Fledgling came from this memory and a feeling of newness. It is linked to a large group of paintings with collage elements that were produced while traveling in Italy and Germany.

Darra Keeton has received awards from The Rockefeller Foundation for the Bellagio Study and Conference Center, the Phi Beta Kappa Teaching Excellence Award, numerous residencies at Yaddo, and a New York State Council for the Arts CAPS grant in painting.
