When I made this print I had no real experience as a printmaker. I was painting outdoors. My models were Cezanne and Giacometti. I admired them for the way they used paint to question the existence of things in the world. The brought the world into being through paint. The painted world is however precarious, and this world might just as easily dissolve. There is always this tension.

It turned out that the process of making the print was very much like this. There is the bringing the image into being, over time, through many trials. At any point, however, it can be lost. So it is exciting to work on this edge, and to finally arrive at a resolution that holds some to this tension, some to this life.
