In 1993, Darra Keeton joined the faculty of Rice University's former Department of Art and Art History. She exhibited paintings and mentored young artists for 35 years. Darra was a beloved teacher, including 19 years at Rice. She retired as Professor Emeritus of Painting and Drawing in 2012.
Keeton received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Miami University at Oxford, Ohio. Her MFA is from Queens College, City University of New York. She taught painting, drawing, printmaking, photography and art history surveys in many places. These include:

Darra Keeton sat in a beautiful courtyard and watched as a leaf floated to the ground.
Fledgling came from this memory and a feeling of newness. While traveling in Italy and Germany, Darra produced a large group of paintings. Like those paintings, Fledgling employs collage elements.
