I was intrigued by the early maps of Maritime explorers who struggled as best they could to define the edges and dangers of rocky coasts. Their drawings seemed caroonish and naive next to the reality of what we know now.

And yet, as other map makers copied these first maps and helped define and hone-in on more detail, we watched in horror as the mystery, beauty, and vulnerability of these isolated "new worlds" became victims of uncontrolled resource grabs with great violence inflicted on native indigenous populations.

Kingsley Parker made two versions of Infancy. There are variations in the colors of the ink layers using the same aerial map drawing.
